Matthew Gammans is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics at North Dakota State University, where he holds a joint research and Extension appointment and serves as Assistant Director of the Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies. His research examines how policy, markets, and weather shape agricultural production decisions. His Extension program translates federal and state policy developments into practical decision support for producers, agribusiness, and policymakers. Ongoing research projects asses the impacts of recent biofuel policy on corn prices and measure how crop insurance policies affects farmers’ cropping decisions. His work has been published in the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, and Land Economics. Prior to joining North Dakota State University, he worked as an economist at Isometric, a carbon credit registry, and previously served on the faculty at Michigan State University. Matthew received a B.S. in Biosystems Engineering from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis.
